‘Ramadhan – A Time For Change’
THE ANNUAL Convention of ISNA (Islamic Society of North America) was held from 29 Aug – 1 Sep at Columbus, Ohio. The team of Arrahman Arraheem Network was once again present for media coverage of the Convention in which over 25,000 people participated. Prominent among those who attended this year’s Convention were the first and second Muslim Congressmen in the US House of Representatives Keith Ellison, (D – Minnesota) and Andre Carson (D – Indiana), US Special Envoy to OIC Ambassador Sada Cumber, President ISNA Dr Ingrid Mattison and other scholars, ulemas, diplomats, govt and social dignitaries.
The media team of Arrahman Arraheem Network while speaking to the participants highlighted this year’s theme of the Convention which was ‘Ramadhan – A Time for Change’. The purpose, the importance and the real spirit of Ramadhan in our lives was discussed which is to make us conscious of the instructions of Allah (swt) and His Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). A fast in Ramadhan acts as a shield against our sins, weaknesses, faults, our wrong thoughts, and provides us protection from our envy, jealousy, greed, anger and our misguided actions. If this is not happening in the Ramadhan then we have to review our actions and make amends sincerely to make the month of Ramadhan a real ‘time for change’ in order to become a better person, a better Muslim and a better citizen.
During the course of the Convention the media team of Arrahman Arraheem Network spoke with Scholars, Ulemas and Speakers, which also included some non-Muslims. All of them appreciated the efforts of Arrahman Arraheem Network, particularly in promoting inter-faith dialogue and in bringing people of different communities and faiths closer together. The team also spoke through interpreters with a group of youth with hearing and speaking disabilities to highlight the immense blessings of Gold Almighty that most of us who can speak and hear enjoy, and how thankless we remain by not valuing them.
The founder of Arrahman Arraheem Network Mr Babar R Chaudhry while giving his concluding comments said that as individuals we have very positive and useful thoughts but what we lack is a combined approach. We, therefore need to work jointly to show to all that Islam is a religion of peace and through our individual behaviour and character prove to all that a Muslim is one who respects people of all faiths and beliefs. We also need to pass on to our youth the proper knowledge about our Deen – Islam which teaches us love, care and harmony. For this we must work hard and acquire the true knowledge of our Deen in our families and our religious institutions.
Another conclusion which was established while speaking to the people in the Convention was that there exists no confusion about terrorism in the world that it is wrong. All Ulemas and Scholars, belonging to any school of thought, emphatically condemn terrorism and suicide bombing and called it against the teachings of Islam. They agreed that those who are preaching this line of action are few in numbers who are misguiding the youth and not doing any service to Islam. #
